Read Philippians 1:9-11
Paul knows something that you won’t read in a Valentine’s Day card – love is hard work and often confusing. It can be difficult to love, and even more complicated to show it in a way others can see or understand. The way we want to show our love for someone might not be what they need. Paul is basically saying, “I am praying for you that you will best know how to love one another.”
So how do we love – I mean truly love – one another? Seek God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Ask him for his love. The kind of love that is sincere. The kind of love that is so deep and caring that it seeks to understand and learn and grow. The kind of love that overflows into all areas of your life. The kind of love that is more than a feeling. Ask God to show you how to love each person you meet in the way that they need. And know that the more you love and seek Jesus, the more your capacity to love others will also grow.
Lord, help me to love you, to know you, to follow you, and to love others more because of you.
